About Exploris

Exploris is a public aquarium in Portaferry and the only one in Northern Ireland. It sits on the shores of Strangford Lough, a Marine Nature Reserve and an important winter stop for many migrating wading birds and seabirds. It makes a good introduction to the wildlife of the lough.

The lough holds almost three quarters of the marine species found in Northern Ireland, including common seals, basking sharks and brent geese. Around three quarters of the world's pale-bellied brent geese spend the winter here. Exploris showcases the wide variety of animals that live in the lough.
