About Lady Lever Art Gallery

The Lady Lever Art Gallery was founded and built by the industrialist and philanthropist William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme, and opened in 1922. It stands in the garden village of Port Sunlight on the Wirral and is one of the National Museums Liverpool.

The gallery is a significant surviving example of late Victorian and Edwardian taste. Its major collections of fine and decorative art reflect Leverhulme's personal interests as a collector, and they are especially strong in British 19th-century painting and sculpture, extending to some late 18th and early 20th-century works.
