Full Route Breakdown

A) Coal Drops Yard

Start your walk in the beautifully restored Coal Drops Yard — a modern, stylish pocket of King’s Cross filled with independent shops, cafés and open spaces. It’s a calm, creative start to the route.

Walk towards the circular Gasholder Park.

B) Gasholder Park

A striking open space built inside a restored Victorian gas frame. It’s reflective, quiet and right beside the water — a perfect moment before dropping onto the canal.

C) Camley Street Natural Park

Cross the footbridge into this tiny urban nature reserve. Reeds, ponds, birdsong — all hidden metres from the railway lines. It’s a surprising, peaceful contrast to the city around it.

D) Regent’s Canal Towpath

Join the towpath and turn west. This is where the walk becomes special.

The water is calm, the path is flat, and colourful narrowboats line the edges. You’ll pass under bridges, beside moorings and through pockets of quiet that feel miles from central London.

E) Camden Lock

Arrive at Camden Lock — but stay on the towpath. You get the atmosphere without the crowds: market energy on one side, peaceful water on the other.

A great spot for photos.

F) Primrose Hill Footbridge

Continue west as the canal curves through quieter residential areas. Cross the elegant Primrose Hill footbridge — a moment where the city softens into greenery.

Optional detour: climb Primrose Hill for one of London’s best skyline views.

G) Regent’s Park / London Zoo Stretch

Follow the canal behind London Zoo. You’ll hear animals, see aviaries and pass under ornate bridges. It’s a surreal, charming stretch that feels like a secret.

H) Maida Hill Tunnel

As the towpath rises above the water, follow the signed path over the top of the Maida Hill Tunnel. This short diversion leads you back to the canal on the far side.

I) Little Venice Basin

Suddenly, everything opens up.

Little Venice is a peaceful basin of narrowboats, waterside cafés, willow trees and reflections. It feels like a hidden village inside the city — the perfect ending to the route.

Grab a drink at a floating café or wander the quiet paths before heading home.
