Starting from Malham village, you’ll wander through ancient woodland to Janet’s Foss, climb through the towering walls of Gordale Scar, loop around the quiet beauty of Malham Tarn, and finish with that iconic view from the top of Malham Cove. It’s a day out that stays with you.

⚠️ Important Note About Gordale Scar The scramble at Gordale Scar is a short but steep climb up the waterfall. It’s only suitable for confident walkers with good footwear and should not be attempted in wet or icy conditions. If you’d prefer to avoid the scramble, you can take the clearly marked path around the gorge and rejoin the route above Gordale Scar.

A). Malham Village

A classic Dales village with stone cottages, cosy pubs, and a friendly feel. The perfect base to start and end your loop. Vibe: Welcoming, traditional, scenic Highlight: Easy parking and instant access to the footpaths

B). Janet’s Foss

A magical little waterfall tucked into woodland. The pool below is crystal clear, and the whole area feels like a hidden glade. Vibe: Enchanted, peaceful, photogenic Highlight: The waterfall framed by mossy rocks and trees

C). Gordale Scar

This is where the adventure kicks in. A dramatic limestone gorge with towering cliffs and a short scramble up the waterfall route. Vibe: Wild, rugged, exhilarating Highlight: The scramble — only for confident walkers, but unforgettable

D). Malham Tarn

A calm, open stretch after the drama of Gordale. Malham Tarn is one of the highest lakes in England and a National Nature Reserve. Vibe: Quiet, expansive, serene Highlight: Big skies and peaceful shoreline paths

E). Malham Cove (Top Viewpoint)

The grand finale. Stand on the famous limestone pavement and look out over the valley — one of the most iconic views in the Yorkshire Dales. Vibe: Epic, airy, cinematic Highlight: The clints and grikes of the limestone pavement

F). Return to Malham Village

A gentle descent back into the village, legs tired and heart full. Vibe: Satisfying, scenic, relaxed Highlight: A well‑earned drink or meal in one of the pubs
