About Blue Planet Aquarium

Queen Elizabeth II opened the aquarium in July 1998, when it was the largest in the United Kingdom. It sits beside the Cheshire Oaks retail and leisure complex and displays both marine and freshwater life.

The £12 million building was designed by Manchester architects Buttress Fuller Alsop to look like a breaking wave. It was developed by Deep Sea Leisure, the Cheshire company that also built Deep Sea World in Scotland. It is a popular indoor choice for families.
