About Mary Rose
The Mary Rose was a carrack in Henry VIII's Tudor navy. Launched in 1511, she served for 34 years in wars against France, Scotland and Brittany and was heavily rebuilt in 1536. On 19 July 1545 she led an attack on French galleys but sank off Spithead in the Solent.
Her wreck was located in 1971 and raised on 11 October 1982 by the Mary Rose Trust, in one of the most complex and expensive maritime salvage projects in history. Today the ship is in Portsmouth, where visitors can learn about the story of Henry VIII's navy.
