About Red House

Red House is an important Arts and Crafts building in Bexleyheath, south-east London. It was co-designed in 1859 by the architect Philip Webb and the designer William Morris as a family home for Morris, and building work was finished in 1860.

After studying at the University of Oxford, Morris decided to build a rural house for himself and his new wife, Jane Morris, within commuting distance of central London. The result is a Grade I listed historic house that is now looked after by the National Trust and open as a museum.
