About Sir John Soane’s Museum

This house museum beside Lincoln's Inn Fields in Holborn was once the home of the neo-classical architect John Soane. It holds drawings and architectural models of his projects, together with a huge collection of paintings, sculptures, drawings and antiquities that he gathered over many years.

Soane secured the museum's future through a private Act of Parliament in 1833, which came into force when he died in 1837. He fought this long parliamentary campaign partly to disinherit his son, whom he strongly disliked, ensuring the collection would stay together for the public.
