Arrive in Tarbert, make a south-Harris loop using the west coast down and the Golden Road back, then travel north through Lewis to Calanais and the Butt of Lewis. Seven island days give the beaches and weather some room. Book an arrival at Tarbert and departure from Stornoway if that fits your wider journey; a same-port return needs extra driving.

Northton
A quieter south-Harris pause with village and coastal scenery. Longer walks are optional.

Rodel
Visit the village and check access to St Clement’s Church. This is the southern turning point.
Route advice: Return to A859 and follow the signed route through Leverburgh to Rodel.
Parking or booking: Use appropriate village parking; church access may vary.
Golden Road via Finsbay
Take the east-coast road slowly through a landscape of rock, water and small settlements. The pin marks Finsbay as a routing waypoint.
Route advice: Follow the Golden Road north via Finsbay, Drinishader and the signed Tarbert connection.
Parking or booking: Stop only where safely parked; this is not a fast alternative to A859.
Calanais
Allow time for the standing-stone landscape and check current access and visitor facilities.
Route advice: From Tarbert take A859 north, then A858 for the west-Lewis route.
Parking or booking: Use the current signed visitor arrangements.
Butt of Lewis
Allow a half-day northern excursion with a lunch stop en route. The lighthouse landscape is exposed.
Route advice: A858 north to Barvas, A857 north, then signed Ness and lighthouse roads.
Parking or booking: Keep clear of cliff edges and use designated parking.
Stornoway
Finish with the harbour and town before your onward ferry or flight.
Route advice: Return south on A857 via Barvas.
Parking or booking: Allow the operator’s full check-in time at the correct terminal.
