This is one of the best-served short walks you’ll find for food and drink — cafés, pubs and seafood stalls are dotted along almost the entire loop, from the Company Shed and West Mersea Oyster Bar on Coast Road to Mersea Mudd Shack and The Fox Inn further round. Public toilets are available near the beach and Victoria Esplanade car parks.
A Note on Safety
This is a gentle, low-risk walk, but a couple of things are worth knowing. Always check tide times before travelling to or from the island via the Strood causeway, as it floods at high tide and can strand vehicles if you’re not paying attention. If you’re walking with dogs, note that some sections of beach have seasonal on-lead restrictions in summer. As with any coastal path, take care on the seawall sections in high winds or icy conditions.
