About Looe Island
Looe Island is a small island and nature reserve about a mile from the mainland town of Looe in Cornwall. It is also known as St George's Island, and it is now owned and managed by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, which looks after it for nature.
Local legend says Joseph of Arimathea landed here with the Christ Child. Some scholars, including Glyn S. Lewis, have suggested it could be Ictis, the place described by Diodorus Siculus as a centre of the tin trade in pre-Roman Britain.
