🧭 Route Breakdown

A) Northleach → Sherborne

Leave the market town behind and drift into National Trust countryside. The lanes here are quiet, scenic and framed by dry‑stone walls. Sherborne’s meadows and brooks make a perfect early stop.

B) Sherborne → Swinbrook

Follow the Windrush Valley back‑roads — some of the prettiest driving in the region. Swinbrook appears suddenly: a tiny cluster of cottages beside the river.

C) Swinbrook → Charlbury

Climb gently through farmland and woodland. Charlbury feels tucked away, with a creative, independent streak and plenty of places to pause.

D) Charlbury → Great Tew

This stretch is pure countryside bliss: rolling hills, quiet lanes and wide views. Great Tew sits in a deep, wooded fold — a postcard moment as you arrive.

E) Great Tew → Guiting Power

A longer, scenic run across the heart of the Cotswolds. Expect open farmland, twisting lanes and that classic golden‑stone glow as you drop into Guiting Power.

F) Guiting Power → Northleach

A final sweep through peaceful countryside, looping you back to your starting point. It’s a satisfying, gentle finish.

Where to Stay in the Cotswolds

⚠️ Notes for the Drive

  • These are narrow rural lanes — take it slow
  • Mobile signal can be patchy
  • Parking is generally easy but always respectful
  • Stick to marked lay‑bys and village parking areas
  • Avoid peak tourist hours for the smoothest loop

📝 Summary

It’s a calm, scenic loop that rewards slow travel and gives you the real Cotswolds, not the Instagram‑overrun version.
