🚐 Snowdonia – 5-Day Campervan Adventure

A blend of wild Welsh landscapes, legendary tales, and campervan freedom.

Day 1: Arrival & Legends by the River

📍 A) Cae Du Campsite, Beddgelert Nestled beside the Glaslyn River, Cae Du offers an idyllic base for the stay.  Set in over 30 acres with beautiful views of Snowdonia National Park, this caravan and camping park offers the ideal blend of relaxation and adventure. Cae Du is less than a mile walk along the River Glaslyn to the picturesque stone-built village of Beddgelert with a choice of pubs, cafes and craft shops.

Park up, crack open a brew, and breathe in the crisp mountain air. Take a lazy stroll into Beddgelert village where charming stone cottages line the streets, and local pubs serve up hearty fare. Don’t miss the poignant Gelert’s Grave, where legend meets landscape.

Evening Suggestions:

Fire up the BBQ and enjoy dinner with a soundtrack of bubbling rivers and birdsong.

On clear nights, the campsite becomes a canvas for superb stargazing—Snowdonia is a designated Dark Sky Reserve.

Day 2: Peaks, Plunge Pools & Copper Veins

📍 B) Morning: Watkin Path up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) One of the most scenic and challenging ascents, this trail starts just minutes from the campsite. Expect waterfalls, mossy gorges, and a steady climb with rewarding views. Early start recommended to catch the summit before clouds roll in.

📍 C) Afternoon: Llyn Dinas or Sygun Copper Mine

If your legs need soothing, head to Llyn Dinas for a refreshing wild swim—you might have the lake to yourself.

Or choose to explore Sygun Copper Mine, an atmospheric self-guided tour through glittering, subterranean tunnels.

Evening: Return to Cae Du, warm up with a campfire meal, and recount the day’s highs—perhaps literally.

Day 3: Castles, Coastlines & Mediterranean Whimsy

📍 D) Morning: Criccieth Castle (40 mins) This seaside stronghold offers sweeping views over Cardigan Bay. Wander its ruined towers while learning how Welsh princes and English kings battled over this coastal prize.

📍 E) Lunch in Criccieth Feast on fish and chips by the sea, or try a café for Welsh rarebit and bara brith.

📍 F) Afternoon: Portmeirion Like stepping into a dream, this Italian-style village is a maze of colourful architecture, cliffside gardens, and eccentric art. Great for snapping surreal photos and picking up quirky souvenirs.

Optional: Cruise over to Black Rock Sands—a beach where you’re allowed to drive your campervan directly onto the sand. Park up for a paddle and coastal sunset.

Day 4: Rails, Royalty & Underground Thrills

📍 G) Morning: Welsh Highland Railway to Caernarfon Step aboard a steam locomotive from Beddgelert and journey through ravines, forests, and past lakes en route to the royal town of Caernarfon.

📍 H) Midday: Caernarfon Castle A UNESCO World Heritage site, this mighty fortress is steeped in history and offers elevated views from its battlements. Great for medieval tales and family-friendly discovery trails.

📍 I) Afternoon: Zip World Llechwedd Choose your thrill—zip-lining over a slate quarry, or journey underground into Llechwedd’s historic mine for an immersive tour. Ideal adrenaline hit or history fix.

Scenic return via the Llanberis Pass or Nant Gwynant route for breathtaking views.

Day 5: Forest Farewell & Mystical Goodbyes

📍 A) Morning: Beddgelert Forest or Riverside Ramble Stretch your legs with a quiet forest trail or a gentle walk along the riverbanks. Perfect for wildlife spotting or one final brew-with-a-view.

Optional Finale: Stop by Dinas Emrys, a wooded hill and legendary lair of the red and white dragons. It’s a short hike with rewarding views and layers of mythological charm.
