This scenic circular route climbs from the village of Chinley onto the broad summit of Chinley Churn, offering incredible views across the Peak District, Kinder Scout, the Hope Valley and the surrounding Derbyshire countryside.

1. Chinley Village

The walk begins in the attractive Peak District village of Chinley.

Surrounded by hills and countryside, the village provides an excellent starting point with parking, pubs and local facilities available nearby.

2. Climb Towards Chinley Churn

Leaving the village behind, the route begins climbing steadily through fields and open countryside.

As you gain height, views begin to open across:

• Chinley
• Chapel-en-le-Frith
• The Hope Valley
• Peak District countryside

The higher you climb, the better the views become.

3. Chinley Churn Summit

Standing at approximately 451 metres (1,480 ft), Chinley Churn is the highlight of the walk.

The summit provides stunning 360-degree views across the surrounding landscape.

On a clear day you can often spot:

• Kinder Scout
• Mam Tor
• Lantern Pike
• South Head
• Edale Valley

This is the perfect place to stop, relax and enjoy the scenery.

4. South-West Viewpoint

One of the most impressive viewpoints on the route lies along the western side of the walk.

Here you’ll enjoy expansive views across the valleys below and towards the wider Peak District landscape.

This section is particularly beautiful during sunrise or late afternoon light.

5. Open Moorland & Rolling Hills

The route continues across quieter moorland terrain where skylarks, curlews and other wildlife are often seen.

This peaceful section gives the walk a real feeling of space and remoteness.

6. Return to Chinley

The final part of the route descends gradually back towards the village, with excellent views accompanying you for much of the journey.

Before long you’ll return to Chinley where a well-earned drink or meal awaits.
