At a glance
Why this walking route is worth doing
Seceda is often photographed as one sharp line of grass and rock. On foot, the interest is broader: the high ridge viewpoint, the slope below it and the distinctive Pieralongia rocks further into the pasture landscape. A lift saves a great deal of climbing, but it does not remove alpine weather or rough ground.
This is a return outing to the Pieralongia hut area. It does not descend to Rifugio Firenze or continue through the entire Odle circuit. That smaller scope makes it easier to plan around a return lift, while still leaving time to walk beyond the first viewpoint.
The mapped return is about 5.5 km. The Seceda operator describes a walking connection from the summit/ridge area towards Pieralongia. Our file returns the same way. A separate charge for the popular viewpoint/path area has been reported in 2026; confirm current entry arrangements rather than treating the whole hillside as a free attraction.
Where to stay
Ortisei: Convenient for the lower Seceda lift and village meals.
Santa Cristina Val Gardena: A wider valley base, with the bus or drive to Ortisei planned separately.
The accommodation map is centred on Ortisei. Compare your own dates, cancellation terms and the journey to the actual trailhead. Step-by-step directions
Follow the route
Leave the upper station for the ridge area
Use the signed walking approach from the Seceda lift station towards the ridge viewpoint. Follow controlled access arrangements and keep well back from the cliff line.
Follow the Pieralongia walking connection
Continue on the established path through the high pasture landscape towards Pieralongia. Identify the signed hut connection rather than descending on a different trail towards the valley.
Reach the Pieralongia turnaround
Use the hut-area endpoint as the turnaround. A meal stop depends on opening and space; check the time before sitting down. The wider Odle trails are outside this file.
Climb back to Seceda
Retrace the route to the upper station, allowing for the uphill return and lift queues. Do not judge return time by the quicker outward descent.

Before you go
Practical information
Route checked against mapped paths on 2 October 2026. This out and back measures approximately 5.5 km along the supplied OpenStreetMap line. It does not include travel from your accommodation, optional detours or time spent at attractions. Walking time is a planning estimate, with room for short stops.
Download the file before leaving and use it with a detailed offline walking map. The KML is independently assembled from OpenStreetMap paths, rather than a recorded walk or a route copied from another travel publisher. It has been checked for continuous mapped segments; this is not an on-foot condition survey. Current closures, landowner notices and signed diversions take priority.
Route data: © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0.
Verify current lift operation and landowner viewpoint/path charge before publication; the reported charge is not silently included in the lift ticket.
Parking
Park legally in Ortisei using the lift operator’s current information. Village parking and lift tickets are separate. The walking line starts high on the mountain, not beside the lower lift entrance.
Tickets and booking
Buy the appropriate Seceda lift ticket and check whether your pass includes these lifts. The operator states Dolomiti SuperSummer is not valid for Seceda. Confirm any separate viewpoint/path charge locally.
Seasonal considerations
Choose an operating lift date and snow-free paths. Cloud can hide the ridge, while thunderstorms and strong winds can affect both walking and lifts.
Toilets and refreshments
Upper-station and hut services depend on seasonal operation. Use facilities when open, but bring water and food. Do not assume a lift ticket guarantees an open mountain restaurant.
Terrain
High pasture paths, uneven stone, slopes and exposed ridge-viewpoint ground. The outward descent towards Pieralongia becomes a climb on the return.
Accessibility
Do not assume this complete route is step-free. Uneven surfaces, gradients and any steps require an individual access assessment; a flat-looking map is insufficient.
Dogs
Check the land manager’s current dog rules. Keep dogs controlled around livestock, wildlife and other walkers; a lead is essential where signs require it. Arrange care instead if entry rules exclude dogs.
Public transport
Use current Val Gardena bus connections to Ortisei and check lift operation for your day. Leave enough time to descend by the lift; an unplanned valley walk is much longer than this guide.
Road conditions, tolls or permits
Use the exact start coordinates to locate the walking entrance. Follow current local parking, access-road and signed restriction information.
Safety
Keep back from cliff edges and obey barriers or staffed access controls. Never bypass a gate to avoid a charge. Turn back in time for the lift, with a margin for queues.

Useful answers
Seceda to Pieralongia Walk: A Return from the Mountain Station FAQs
Does the lift ticket cover every path charge?
Do not assume so. A separate viewpoint/path charge has been reported; confirm current arrangements locally.
Does it reach Rifugio Firenze?
No. This version turns at the Pieralongia hut area and returns to Seceda.
Is the return uphill?
Yes. Allow more time and energy than the outward downhill section might suggest.
Is Dolomiti SuperSummer valid?
The Seceda operator says it is not valid for these lifts. Check your specific ticket or pass.
Can I do it in winter?
This is a summer hiking line. Winter operation and safe pedestrian routes require a separate plan.
Can I use the KML in a walking app?
Import it into an app that supports KML, or into your own map project. Check that the whole route is visible after importing. Download the underlying map for offline use too: a line without terrain, paths and place names is a poor navigation aid.
